As we drove through the beautiful hilly area towards Fyns Hoved – the most northern spot on Funen – the excitement grew in our car. The coasts of Funen should be the best trout coasts in Denmark – which probably was the reason for the excitement. It was Friday at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and with traffic at a minimum, it would be possible to get a few hours of fishing before sunset. When we arrived at the beach, the Jylland car was already there and 4 guys were spread evenly on the nearest coast. We quickly prepared the gear and walked by the foot of the cliffs to find the most suitable trout spots. The wind was fairly strong, but from the east, so the cliff provided shelter. As the sunset approached we intensified the fishing but when the darkness made the fishing impossible no one had had any contact with the trout.
When we arrived at the summerhouse the mood was still positive – looking forward to peanut soup, beer and BIRNE snaps. After dinner we watched a movie about seatrout fishing at Funen – it looked very easy to find and catch trout – and once again the enthusiasm grew.
Next morning someone (LuckyFish) made the mistake of waking us up one hour to early. This meant we were actually at the coast before sunrise. Again we spread out along the coast trying to find the best spots. After a short time Christian caught a small cod and shortly after one more cod was hooked and released. After that everything was quiet – no contact no fish. After three hours of fishing we decided to try another spot and drove to Midskov further south. The coast looked super but once again there was not much luck. Martin caught and released a trout just under the limit on the Bombarda with a fly. We continued to Langø and finished at Krogshavn, but still no success.
BIRNE saved the day once again.
Sunday morning we started out a little later than Saturday – also at Fyns Hoved. Some of us walked all the way to the most northern tip. After three throws, Lucky caught a small trout, but that was all for that day. At noon we went back and ended the trip.
