Birne - a magical drink
n the early 1970s, a wise man by the name of Klaus Kiefer decided to change the world using nothing but pears and alcohol. After months of deep contemplation and several less successful attempts to concoct the potion of Birne, Klaus struck lucky one October evening.
The weather was rough and a sharp gale from the west had been blowing for days, pulling even the most stubborn leaf from every branch in the Schwarzwald. Klaus had been sampling his Birne since early that morning, and months of hard work was taking its toll on his unusually gay mood and handsome chiselled complexion.
In the pleasant haze of the Birne rush, Klaus found himself wandering aimlessly amongst the last of the boxes of that years pears and while muttering drunken curses of yonder, he was suddenly struck by a flash of genius. The structure of the Birne finally made sense to him and he swept through the night on the breeze of his next brew, sampling his previous attempts all the while to maintain his energy level.
The result of this faithful evening is what today is know as the Birne. The Birne now comes in many disguises, but the legend remains and true lovers of the Birne still enjoy Birne brewed on the original recipes to this day!
Behold the Birne.
